There’s still time to nominate your community for Kraft Hockeyville!

We are officially midway through the nomination period for Kraft Hockeyville 2021!

For those who haven’t submitted a nomination for this year’s program you still have 20 days to enter! For those that have submitted a nomination, your journey is only beginning. Now is the time to connect with your community to help set your nomination apart. You can do this by virtually rallying to score points, which are earned by sharing a Kraft Hockeyville Tweet, or adding and reacting to nomination photos or videos. Please visit krafthockeyville.ca for more information on how you can earn rally points for your community.

Rally points are important for those vying to win the coveted title of Kraft Hockeyville 2021. The 2021 grand prize winner will also have the opportunity to host an NHL® preseason game and receive $250,000 towards arena upgrades, along with $10,000 worth of brand new hockey equipment from NHLPA Goals & Dreams.

Over Kraft Hockeyville’s 15-year legacy, winning communities such as Lumby, British Columbia have used the program and prizing to break down barriers and make hockey more accessible for all members of the community.

Lessons from Lumby

Lumby is a small community in the North Okanagan area of British Columbia, with an unrivaled passion for hockey. That passion was highlighted for the country to see when the community nominated itself for Kraft Hockeyville 2016 in honour of Peter Catt, a beloved local hockey coach that had passed away the year before.

The community captured the hearts of Canadians, who rallied together to help Lumby win the coveted title of Kraft Hockeyville 2016. But that was only the start of their journey!

“Kraft Hockeyville turned our grief into good,” said Angie Clowry, who helped lead Lumby’s community nomination. “It really helped us create amazing memories as a community. The nomination period up to winning and hosting the NHL game made our community feel connected beyond just being a group of people living in or from the same place. Kraft Hockeyville gave us a completely memorable and unique shared experience to celebrate our love for hockey and Peter.”

The legacy of Kraft Hockeyville in the community is still making an impact today. The exposure from the program helped kickstart the community’s efforts to raise $3 million to build a brand-new rink that made their space more inclusive and accessible to players, staff and fans. The renovations funded by the Kraft Hockeyville winnings helped build women’s changerooms, which did not exist before. Women of all ages now have a space to call their own at the rink.

The community rink should be a space that feels safe and welcome for everyone, and Lumby made sure to use their prize money to do just that.
