Tsongas Center

Opened and dedicated on Jan. 27, 1998, the center proudly bears the name of the late Senator Paul E. Tsongas, a Lowell native.

The Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell is one of Massachusetts finest venues providing quality entertainment for all ages. The Tsongas is home to the NCAA Division I UMass Lowell River Hawks hockey and basketball teams. It is also home to the Boston team of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) with its first home game held on January 5, 2024 against Toronto.

In addition to exciting UMass Lowell Athletics action, the Tsongas Center hosts concerts, family shows, sporting events, trade shows and conferences. Some of the world’s biggest stars have performed before capacity crowds here in Lowell. We can seat 6,500 patrons for hockey and up to 7,800 for concerts without losing the intimate feeling needed for a memorable experience.

The Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell is a full service, multi-purpose venue serving the Merrimack Valley region. It also features a beautifully landscaped outdoor area, function rooms overlooking the Merrimack River and a spacious lobby. The center is perfect for all types of events – whether they be business meetings or major shows!
