The MacDowell Athletic Center at Rivers High School is a 78,000-square-foot athletic facility which includes a fitness center, the MacDowell Ice Arena, and the Benson Gymnasium, which contains a NCAA regulation basketball court. In the fall and spring, the rink is converted into a large turf field that is used for indoor practices and special events, such as the Annual Parents’ League Auction. In addition to this facility, the school has six outdoor tennis courts and more than 12 acres of playing fields. Nonesuch Field is a turf-field complex completed in the spring of 2017. Two additional turf fields, Davis and Baker, are part of a new outdoor athletic complex that was added near the entrance of campus in 2019.
Rivers sports teams are highly competitive, and each year multiple teams reach the NEPSAC playoffs. Last year two of the school’s teams, the girls’ soccer team and the girls’ field hockey team, took home the NEPSAC championship trophies, while 24 of our athletes were named All-ISL.
