Gord Brown Memorial Canada 150 Outdoor Rink

Built by Canadian Heritage, in partnership with the Ottawa Senators and the Ottawa International Hockey Festival (OIHF), this outdoor rink spent its first season on the southeast lawn of Parliament Hill as a part of the Canada 150 celebrations. When the celebrations ended, it was offered to municipalities in Ontario and Gananoque was selected from 10 municipalities who’d made submissions. MP Gord Brown had been campaigning for an outdoor rink for the Town, after he died suddenly after a hockey game, his brother Jeff took over the campaign, focusing on the Canada 150 rink. Gananoque won the right to own and install it in their community and it was delivered to the town on November 20, 2018. Originally expected to take a few months to design and install, unexpected delays cropped up (such as the pandemic) and it was not able to be opened on time, finally opening on January 22, 2022.
