This historic indoor arena was opened in 1968 and is home to the Twillingate Combines. George Hawkins headed up the initial arena project that took a crew of volunteers into Gander during the mid-1960’s to dismantle a WWII airplane hangar and brought it out to Twillingate to reconstruct it as a hockey arena.
Centrally located in the town, and surrounded by other amenities such as the swimming pool, playground, ball field, and schools. The George Hawkins Memorial Arena offers six dressing rooms, and a social/meeting room. Used not only for hockey and figure skating during the winter months, it is also the home base for the town’s annual Fish, Fun & Folk Festival during the summer.
This facility was the recipient of the Kraft Hockeyville first prize in 2020.
